Goosecross Cellars, Yountville

Goosecross was THE perfect stop from the 29 as we made our way over to the Silverado Trail from downtown Yountville, the home of Thomas Keller’s French Laundry, and literally the heart of the Napa Valley. The trail is loaded with some of the best wineries and a beautiful drive right the base of the Mayacamas mtn range so you can easily make your way over and see where the road leads you (if your trip is impromptu). Ironically our last stop in Yountville was Paraduxx, Duckhorn Wine Co. but we learned that the two have nothing to do with each other.

As you pull in, the winery is surrounded by vineyards on all sides with a patio that seemlessly blends into the Cabernet vines. Take your glass outside and your host will  come to you and your friends (which is rare folks) as you taste through Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay all the way to Cab, Petit Syrah, Syrah, etc. For Napa I’d say they offer wines on the approachable side albeit the varietals that they’re working with are the classics. No need for decanting, aging and all that jazz, take a few bottles home and enjoy with a nice steak or poultry dish or if you just want a glass of something big and full-bodied but drinkable now this is your wine. Bear in mind these wines are only sold winery direct so make sure you don’t leave empty-handed and I have a feeling you’ll be recommending Goosecross to anyone you know headed in that direction.
